Microsoft Word version 5.1a - US English Edition

The install set included with the .iso disk image "MS-Word-51a.iso" was obtained from the Microsoft Office 3 install CD and added here as an easy install option of Word 5.1a.

This install set can be installed on any Macintosh running a Mac OS from 6.0.2 to 9.2.2
It can also be installed onto classic Macs running an Apple/UNIX system (A/UX).

It does not require the use of a writable floppy disk to personalize this install like the floppy install sets of Word 5 do, therefore it is a fast and an easy install option.

To install Word 5.1a: Mount the .iso image and run the installer located in the first folder, labeled "Install".

The additional included folder labeled "Compressed Disk Images" is for installing Word onto A/UX systems only, and can be ignored if you do not have an A/UX system set up.

If installing this onto a Mini vMac emulator, extract this archive on your host system and drop the .iso into a running Mini vMac window.

If you extract this archive using a classic Mac OS, for best results use MacZip. Obtain MacZip from the Macintosh Garden if you don't have a copy.

If extracted on a host Mac/PC the .iso can be added to an emulators GUI beforehand.

This .iso can also be written back to CD-R if necessary, but if extracted on a classic Mac OS and mounted using the Virtual CD/DVD Utility (also from the Macintosh Garden) you can install Word 5.1a from the mounted disk image.

Caveats: This install set initially didn't want to install on Basilisk II for me. It turns out that it doesn't like having a "shared" disk enabled via the GUI (called "UNIX" on Mac and "My Computer" in Windows). So, if you strike any issues when installing Word 5 from this .iso image, turn off the shared folder in the emulator's GUI before starting the emulator and running the installer. This issue may possibly apply to SheepShaver as well.
